I finally got rid of the Joker.  The cops didn’t believe me at first.  I had to show them the horror of what the Joker did to my room, the red on my walls is definitely not paint.  With that being said we only have two books to review this week.  It would have been three but I forgot one. So the five books we are looking at today are Batman #5, Nightwing #3, Detective Comics #939, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #1, and Batgirl #2.

Batman has no choice but to use extreme measures in Batman #5.  This was the finale of the first story in the new Batman series.  I loved the way the writer ended this story arc.  The one complaint I do have is there could have been a little more explaining about Gotham and Gotham Girl’s powers.  I felt this story only vaguely touched upon their powers.

Batgirl joins Nightwing and Raptor in Nightwing #3.  This is an odd issue because I love the general story, I just hate how they went about executing it.  In this issue we learn how far Raptor is going to go to complete his goals.  The problem is the way the plot presented itself.  Some could interpret it as a convoluted mess.  There were so many ways that the writer could have got his point across without making it complicated.

Batman and his team has to stop a mass murder conducted by the government in Detective Comics #939.  This was an amazing chapter in this story.  I was really worried that after the last chapter that this one would be bad.  This is due to the fact that the last issue could have been a great ending to the story.  Luckily issue #939 does not disappoint.

In Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #1 the Birds of Prey team is finally assemble as they work together to find out who is stealing the identity of Oracle.   I enjoyed this issue however the first two or three pages kind of confused me due to the fact that the author did not say it was a flashback in the beginning.

Finally in Batgirl #2 we see Barbara Gordon try to establish a life in China as she goes undercover to learn who attacked her.  While I liked the story we saw elements of it from previous Batgirl stories, such as the new boyfriend who is probably going to get dumped or killed in the next few issues.  My vote is on his death.  There other things that we have seen before but I am not going to go into them.

Batman

Hello everyone … Joker here!  I have kidnapped the usual guy who writes this terrible blog and decided to give you my two cents worth.  You better like this post or else people will learn what it’s like to live without a head.  HAHAHA!!!!!!!(Thud!)

I ‘m terribly sorry about that. Last time I pick up a hitchhiker!! Now with that out of the way, we can could go through with the review.  The three books that we have today are Detective Comics #938, All*Star Batman, and Red Hood and the Outlaws #1.

Batwoman’s father tries to recruit her to fight against her team mates in Detective Comics #938.  This issue was set up like a final battle for a story but I don’t know if this is the final chapter of the story or what.  It ends with an ending that could go either way.  The thing I like about this issue is we see more of the human side between Batwoman and her father in a flashback where we see the two have a tender moment at the gravesite of Batwoman’s mother and sister.

Next up is Scott Snyder’s All*Star Batman #1, let’s just hope this All*Star Batman is able to be completed this time.  Batman is on the run from the law after being framed by Two-Face only to have to work with Two-Face in the end.  While this issue is a good first chapter in the story, you have to pay attention due to the fact that it does not go in chronological order. In other words, this comic is basically pulp fiction.

Lastly, in Red Hood and the Outlaws #1, the Red Hood goes undercover by working for the Black Mask.  Only two issues in and we get a good feeling of what the series is about.  I like this issue because it shows major character growth in the Red Hood however I am worried that this series will get a bad reputation not because of the story but because of the reputation of the writer who is writing it.

Batman

This week the Suicide Squad comes out and it has already received mediocre reviews and you are wondering if I will go see it.  I will definitely go see it because I don’t care about what critics say.  With that being said the three books we are reviewing today are Batman #4, Batman Beyond #15 and Nightwing #2.

First in Batman #4, the hero Gotham has gone on a murderous rampage that Batman has to stop.  I quite enjoyed this issue due to the fact that we learned a lot about Gotham and Gotham Girl.  The problem I do have with this issue is it sets up way too much to be answered in the next issue which we know is the end of this story line.  I hope this story ends with at least some closure but my gut feeling says it won’t happen.

Tim Drake discovers that Terry McGuiness is still alive in Batman Beyond #15.  This is one of the issues that I don’t know how I feel about it.  This is due to the fact that it is part set up and part progression of the plot.  It can’t decide which way the issue is going to focus and I should be angry at this issue but I’m not.

Lastly, in Nightwing #2 Dick Grayson has to team up with another vigilante named Raptor.  This was a great issue.  It provided a lot of explanation that the previous issue missed out on.  A word of warning though, there is one page that is not for the faint of heart due to the fact that you see something out of a horror movie.  The thing is, I don’t know is that scene fits in with the story line but visually the scene served its purpose and did it well.
